About us

We aim to be the best science institution in the south of Thailand, attaining high standards in research, education, and entrepreneurship.

The rapid growth in knowledge of biological science along with the advancement in information technology has led to the establishment of the new interdisciplinary fields of science - biotechnology and bioinformatics. Bioinformatics combines basic and advanced principles of many areas, including biology, chemistry, medicine, mathematics, and computer science. Its goal is to develop and deploy computational approaches to aid the research of life processes, particularly in human health, which is becoming a recent global issue.

Recognising the need for providing our university infrastructure and experts in bioinformatics, mathematics, and computing, as well as in biology, the Department of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics (MBB) was founded in 1993 at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), the most prestigious university in the south of Thailand. Later integrated into the Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre in 2004, our group is well equipped with comprehensive wet-lab facilities in molecular biology and genomics.

We have two main objectives at MBB: to perform high-quality research in molecular biology and bioinformatics and to disseminate basic and advanced knowledge in biotechnology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, through our higher-educational programmes including undergraduate (BSc in Biotechnology) to postgraduate (MSc and PhD in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics) degrees. Most importantly, we aim to be the best science institution in the south of Thailand, attaining high standards in research, education, and entrepreneurship.
